Reviving Ohio’s Golden Brewing Era

The Spirit of 1878 In the late 1800s, Ohio’s brewing scene was a thriving reflection of immigrant craftsmanship, local pride, and community gathering. Breweries like John & Michael Anthony (1810), Christian Moerlein (1853), and Gambrinus (1875) laid the foundation for what would become one of the most respected beer-producing regions in America. It is from this legacy that “1878 & Company” draws its inspiration. Among these pioneers was C. Kropf & Co., established in Canton, Ohio, in 1878, placing it within the top 15% of Ohio’s earliest breweries by founding date. Though long dormant, it stands as a symbol of the era’s entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to craft.

Rather than focus on a single name, our mission is to revive the entire spirit of Ohio’s 19th-century brewing heritage—celebrating forgotten brands, honoring historic recipes, and bringing back the values that once made local breweries the heartbeat of their communities. Purpose & Revival “1878 & Company” exists to craft exceptional beer while rekindling Ohio’s lost brewing stories. From original-style brews like Cream Ales, Lagers, and Porters to the modern Resilience Red, our lineup honors the past while embracing the present.

We are not just re-launching a brand—we are reviving a movement. Legacy by the Numbers Founded 1878 – firmly placing it in the top 25 oldest brewery origins in Ohio Operated during a period where only a handful of breweries from the 1800s survived Prohibition or modernization One of the rare 19th-century brands being revived in the modern craft beer era.

Public Benefit Commitment (B-Corp Model) As a modern Public Benefit Corporation (PBC) and aspiring Certified B Corporation, we will operate with a triple bottom line: People, Planet, and Profit. 5% of net revenue (after profitability) will fund several foundations, Eco-forward brewing practices: waste reduction, water efficiency, and responsible sourcing Support for inclusive hiring and local job creation through our Mobile Taproom model Boosting heritage tourism tied to Ohio’s historic trailways and canal networks.

Growth Strategy Rooted in Mobility & Storytelling Rather than a traditional brick-and-mortar taproom, we are launching with a Mobile Self-Pour Taproom model that brings the story—and the beer—directly to communities, festivals, and historical venues.

Market Opportunity & Impact Ohio consistently ranks among the top 5 U.S. craft beer states, with a strong appetite for authentic, sustainable, and locally rooted brands. By tapping into the rich untold stories of Ohio’s beer pioneers and blending that with a social impact mission, “1878 & Company” offers investors, partners, and the public a brand that is both nostalgic and future-focused.
